Got Questions?
You're in the right place! This list is a great jumping-off point but is by no means exhaustive. If you're not seeing what you want to know, reach out to us via email at handandjar@gmail.com. While we don't pretend to know everything, we're quite confident in all things cookies and want to answer those burning questions.
Here are a few additional resources you may find helpful:
How do I place and order?
Click on "INQUIRIES" in the menu bar and fill out the subsequent google form. If that feels intimidating, send your idea and event date to handandjar@gmail.com. You can expect a response within 48 hours!
Do you offer Gluten Free or Vegan cookies?
Unfortunately, we have not found Vegan or Gluten-free recipes that we love and, as such, do not offer those options at this time. Fear not, we are still searching, and you can be the first to know when we find it by signing up for our email list on the home page!
Are there any allergins in your recipe?
The recipe that we use utilizes butter, eggs, sugar, and wheat flour none of which can be omitted at this time. As per wholesale ingredient labels, it is possible that cookies contain trace elements of various nuts, peanuts, and shellfish.
How do you package your orders?
Cookies are individually packaged in cellophane bags that are heat-sealed for freshness which are then placed in a white, semi-gloss bakery box. Have something else in mind? We can also do custom packaging based on your needs!
How long do cookies last?
Cookies taste the freshest when consumed within two (2) weeks of purchase, but are still safe to eat for much longer and can even be kept fresh in the freezer for a year.
What is the best way to store cookies?
To ensure maximum freshness, we suggest storing your cookies in a cool, dry place away from direct heat or sunlight. You may choose to refrigerate or freeze your cookies, but this step is unnecessary; allow them to thaw before consuming.
Can you ship my cookies to me?
Under Virginia Cottage Food Law, we are unable to ship our cookies locally or nationally; they must be sold directly to consumers.
How and when do I pay for my cookies?
After you submit your inquiry form you will receive a proposed design, quote, and timeline. Once these are finalized, a down payment of at least 50% will be sent to you via Square's secure point of sale platform. The second payment will be due just before the time of pick up.
Your label says, "processed and prepared without state inspection - not for resale," what does that mean?
Hand & Jar operates under Virginia Cottage Food Law, which allows home bakers in Virginia to produce goods for sale that do not require time or temperature monitoring after baking. Cottage Bakeries are not regularly inspected but can be subjected to random inspections and must comply with all Virginia Food Laws.

What is your cancelation policy?
Refunds are dependent on when the order is canceled:
- Orders canceled two (2) weeks in advance of delivery can be fully refunded
- Orders canceled less than two weeks in advance of delivery can be refunded 50% of the cookie's total value
- Orders canceled less than one week in advance of delivery can be refunded 25% of the cookie's total value
- Orders cannot be refunded within 24 hours of delivery
Orders with less than two weeks of production time can only be canceled within 24 hours of design finalization, as marked by the downpayment invoice, to receive a full refund. Otherwise, all other cancellation terms apply.
